The belief that there is something beyond this world, a special feeling, all around us and accessible to us to make our lives more special and less ordinary, is pretty damn exciting…
Magick is something felt but not seen. A feeling, like love – invisible to the naked eye, but felt by every awakened soul and heart.
You can choose to believe in magick, or not. The world however, feels like a better, more special and precious place when you believe that there is a special power, a force that allows you to bring dreams into fruition…
Witchcraft is a way of aligning with nature and the universe in a way so powerful that it can help you get to where you are supposed to be and keep you on track.
It can also be used in combination with manifestation.
How boring would the world be without magick and witchcraft?
It would be rather plain and simple, matter of fact and with lack of that special something, that spark. Without magick, our lives are a bit like how the government wants everyone to live – to work, pay taxes and be grateful for the privileges of shops being open.
We need magick to keep as alight. We need it to make the mundane reality of every day special and meaningful. It adds meaning to life and makes this planet and earth so much more magnificent.
There is magick in the rain, the rainbows after thunderstorms and the thunder itself. All powerful forces and ones that make us glad to be alive and frankly, ones we couldn’t survive without. Water that brings life and rainbows that bring hope.
There is even magick in the numbers you see throughout your day – like the number 11, or 444 repeatedly appearing mysteriously and you’re left wondering – is there a reason they keep appearing? Do they mean something?
Angel numbers and numerology are both aspects linked to magick and witchcraft. Want to introduce a bit of magick into your life through witchcraft?
Here’s all you need to know about witchcraft as an intrigued beginner…
When it comes to witchcraft you can practice it daily and take it seriously, which could lead to you developing a speciality, becoming a specific kind of witch. That depends on whether you’re drawn to, for example, herbs and herbalism, or food, or water, the moon, the sun, or the 4 earthly elements.
Due to the various ways of practicing witchcraft and the different types of rituals that go with it, there are different specialities and types of witchcraft.
There are 13 main, most common types of witches:
You don’t have to choose a speciality or focus on just one of the witchcraft types. You can use magick and witchcraft however you like, even if it is just to introduce rituals into your life making it less mundane.
The choice is yours, there are no strict rules and your best bet will be to follow your intuition and your interests. If herbs and nature is where you feel the calling, perhaps start with herbalism and how you can use nature in spells.
The best way to determine how far you want to go with the witchcraft practice, is by trying out different rituals and diving into various topics to see what resonates with you and makes your soul shine.
There are 13 different crafts and specialities you can discover to see if you’re a specific type of witch. If like me, you don’t like labels, don’t think of it as a speciality, just an area of interest of your soul.
Here’s main witchcraft topics/areas to discover:
To get started with witchcraft, you’ll need a couple of items which you might already have in your home or if you’ve been following this blog. If not, to give you an idea of some tools, you can check out my divination tools article and crystals for beginners.
You can get a free guide on how to lead a more spiritual life that adds magick below:
Tools to get you started with are:
Crystals – they can help you manifest things into your life, assist in casting spells and can be incorporated into various rituals. Each crystal is associated with a different earthly element and has different properties/energies – depending on your usage of crystals they can be incorporated to direct your spells/rituals in a certain direction.
You can get crystals from Etsy, using my list of crystals for beginners here.
If you’re interested in learning more about crystals, scroll to the bottom of this page.
Cauldron – every witch’s must-have; use it to cook up potions, store herbs and burnt materials or even candles.
Etsy have a lovely collection of cast iron, big and small cauldrons, some even handmade by independent stores – link.
Tarot Cards – they can be used as a fortune-telling method and can be incorporated into various rituals/spells. Keep them at your witch altar creating a magickal place just for your witchy items. I recommend starting with the Rider Waite cards as they’re great for beginners. If you’re new to tarot and need some more detail on how to read and use tarot cards you can use this article.
Crystal Ball – another one to store at your witchy altar and to help with envisioning the future or when you’re in search of some answers. A crystal ball is used for scrying which is part of divination – you can learn more about divination tools and what they mean here.
Pentacle – a pentacle is a five-pointed star in a circle. In can be used to cast spells, place different items on there in a specific order, including flowers, crystals and runes. I can also be used as a charging station for your cauldron or amulet of some sort.
Mortar and Pestle – used to blend herbs together, which is a common witchcraft practice and can be incorporated into spells, rituals as well as being quite a therapeutic part of spellwork.
Candle – a key item for every witch, as the element of fire and smoke is very powerful and gives a deeper meaning to your rituals. Fire as an element itself is a very potent element and by bringing it into witchcraft and magick, it adds an element of strength and intention. You can read more about the spiritual element of fire here.
Pen and paper – you probably already have that, but it’s handy to keep it on your altar to write down your intentions, spells. You can use different coloured pens for different types of magick or intentions. If you’re super dedicated to witchcraft, you could even use real ink instead of pens, adding that extra bit of magick into your rituals.
I’ve hand-picked a selection of the above tools and divination tools every witch should have right here.
And there you have it! If you’re thinking of introducing magick and witchcraft into your life, use the above advice and tools to help guide your practice. If you have your own tips or tools you like to use in witchcraft, I’d love for you to comment below and share it with the world 🙂
Until next time xo
