You might have seen images popping up on your Instagram feed with quotes in the form of “I am…” or “I will…” or “I have…”, often about money or love, and you probably wondered what they are and why they are being used.
We’re pleased to tell you that you’re not the only person new to affirmations.
What’s the hype? It’s clear that they are getting more popular, but why are people using them?
Could they be benefiting you? You might feel like you’re missing out on affirmations – but, you aren’t sure why, because you aren’t too sure what affirmations actually are.
There are different methods for getting things and attracting things into your life. There’s working hard, sleepless nights planning a business, meditation, law of attraction (LOA) and manifestation.
Affirmations come somewhat in the middle of LOA and manifestation.
What Is an Affirmation?
Affirmations are statements, normally in the present or past tense as if they already happened, or are happening right now. They are positive and kind statements that allow you to manifest these things into your life.
These statements are your desires, wants, and dreams, written in a present or past tense. A positive affirmation like this, helps you to attract those wishes into your life.
Affirmations can be about money/wealth, relationships, friendships, love, business or anything else important to you, and they can be long-term or short-term wants. If they are long-term dreams, just remember to be patient when you’re manifesting these.
If you’re not a patient person, it is best to start with short-term wants and desires, working your way up to the top end goal.
Some example affirmations, just to give you an idea, are as follows:
- I am successful in my business and it is growing every day.
- I am in a loving relationship with a partner that is perfect for me.
- I got the job I applied for and am happy in my new position/role.
- I have received a large sum of money and am grateful for it. I will use it for good, and in honest ways.
- I am healthy, my family are healthy and I am grateful for their health.
How To Write Your Own Affirmations?
Naturally, you might want to alter these affirmations and tailor them to your situation and your own desires. The best way to do this is first to write down what you want to achieve. If it’s a big goal, can you break it down into smaller steps?
Let’s try: if for example, you want to be in a loving relationship, the first thing you’ll need is to attract that person into your life – meet that one special person. That should be your first affirmation.
Your affirmation can be specific and detailed. Just beware, the Universe will grant you those things, sometimes quicker than expected so be careful what you wish for ?
If your wish is to have a loving partner, give them some features and write them down. Are they funny? Kind? Dark/light hair? Whatever your preference is in a partner, what their ideal qualities are, write them down, they can be bullet points at this stage.
Now that you have your ideal person imagined, really imagine them, really imagine how they make you feel.
How it feels to have that person in your life, smile, laugh, cry tears of joy, whatever feels right, just make sure they’re happy feelings of the relief that this person is coming your way.
Not tears out of fear that you’ll never find anybody – because that’s not true, okay? You are worthy of love.
Anyway, back to writing that affirmation.
Now that you have bullet points about the person and an emotional attachment, you can go even further (or skip this) and imagine what you’d like to be doing with that person…
Keep it clean ? (or don’t…), whether it’s a holiday in Hong Kong, traveling to see your parents, a day at the beach, anything you’d like to really do with that person.
Really imagine in and really feel the emotions you’d be feeling when you’re with that person.
Now write it all down. However, it pours out of you onto the paper. What they look like, what they sound like, what they do, how they behave, where you both are, what you’re both doing etc. Everything you can possibly imagine.
Once you’re done, you’ll want to summarise that in 2 – 3 sentences. Such as:
“I have found the perfect, funny, kind and caring person for me. We are having lots of fun, every day laughing, going on adventures and spending lots of time in nature. She/he makes me feel happy, like anything is possible and takes all worry away from me, I feel loved.”
What To Do With Affirmations?
If you just want to know how affirmations are used, and aren’t fussed about a specific goal, you can try them daily, just to see what surprises await you and to discover the magic of the Universe
You can choose to write them down in a notebook or journal and burn them, or you can say them out loud and repeat them a few times before going to sleep.
There are a few effective ways to manifesting your affirmations, and one of them is to write them down or say them aloud before sleep, envisioning them as you fall asleep, and thinking about them as if they already happened to you.
The power of affirmations also lies in the repetition factor. You’re essentially training your mind to think only positive things, through a simple art of repetition. Just like exercise, the more you work out, the healthier and fitter you get.
Think of it as a training of the mind.
You can start with simple affirmations such as:
“The Universe is blessing me with a nice surprise today. I receive good news today.”
“I find something I have been looking for, for a long time.”
And really believe in it. Believe the statement to be as true as the time on the clock right now. It is happening, so do not doubt it. Watch the magic appear…
Are Affirmation Related To Positive Thinking?
In a way, yes affirmations involve positive thinking because they are positive affirmations and you want to attract positive things into your life.
That can’t be achieved with a negative mindset. You might need to train your mind to think positively and send those negative thoughts away from time to time, in case they cloud over your positive affirmations.
Positive thoughts attract positive things. These positive affirmations are effective because you are convincing your mind to think positive things, happy thoughts and happy places/situations.
We all know that changing our thoughts can make us feel happier and more satisfied with life, and as a result, improve our positive thinking habits.
Can Affirmations Be Questions?
Yes, they can be questions too. Just be careful what you are asking, you don’t want to be putting doubts or negative things into your mind. Questions can prompt the brain to search for an answer, often spurring action and definitely changing your mindset to a positive one.
Question affirmations are called Affirmations.
Let use an example: say you want a new car. Your affirmation might be: I accept a new, working car.
An affirmation (question) might then be: Why do I need/deserve a new car? How can I accept the new car into my life?
You see, you start searching for answers while believing and strengthening your thinking through the positive belief that it will happen.
The question helps with action, but you still need to believe in your affirmation statement. They can work quite well together.
– You can strengthen your affirmations by setting intentions to the correct crystal.
How, I hear you ask?
Well, it depends on what you’re affirming and trying to manifest. Each crystal is different and responds differently because of their vibrational energy frequencies.
